Computer
Setup
New students have enough to do without worrying about getting
their computer ready for the challenges of campus computing. Our
repair shop offers a set-up service that will help prepare
your computer to survive the challenge. Our $75 set-up
process includes:
The set-up, activation, and updating
of the operating system, including all applicable drivers.
The installation and updating of
Microsoft Office Professional.
The installation, configuration,
and updating of needed virus protection software
and spyware removal tools.
Configuring your computer to work
on the University’s wireless network (the student
will still have to register their computer on the
network).
A CD wallet with all discs used for installation and setup. It is important to keep the wallet in a safe place, as if any work is to be done on it in the future the techs will need the software inside the wallet before they can continue.
The setting of a restore point
(if applicable) to facilitate easily returning to
a last "known good" configuration of the
computer.
An ethernet cable.
The above applies to hardware and software purchased in our store. We do not do setups on machines and software purchased elsewhere!
Apple BootCamp
With the switch to Intel processors, exciting new
options are available for running Windows XP and Vista operating
systems natively on the Mac. Emulators such as VirtualPC are
no longer needed, although you are still able to purchase software such as VMWare Fusion and Parallels to run a Windows OS from within Mac OS without rebooting. *Note*
This applies only to Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo based Macs. If a student purchases a Mac from our store and requires Boot Camp to be configured for them, we offer a setup service for an additional charge of $125. You will also need to purchase the Microsoft
Windows XP Professional operating system, which is available for students with valid UT ID's for
$75.00.

Recommended Systems
The University does not have a specific computer
requirement. However some colleges have worked with us to set
computer recommendations. Below is a list of colleges that have
recommended system pages through us. Clicking on them will take
you to their respective pages.
Download these
forms. (PDF) The packet includes agreements for Microsoft
and Adobe. If you are not interested in a product from one
of those companies than disregard the form that you are not
needing.
If you are interested in placing an order for the tax holiday, click here for information. Please write "tax holiday" on the cover sheet if you plan on using the tax holiday to purchase a computer.
Step two:
Fill out the forms and fax them back to the store at the
following fax number, 865-974-3668.
Along with these forms please fax in a copy
of your UT acceptance letter.
You may choose to put your credit card on the first sheet
if you are comfortable with that. The fax will come to a secure
office location. Otherwise, leave a note to have someone call
to obtain your credit card number. We accept VISA and Mastercard.
Also, be sure to put on the first sheet or on a fax cover
sheet what it is that you are interested in purchasing.
Step three:
Within two business days you should receive an quote, via
email, from the computer store based on the information faxed
into us.
Step four:
If you approve the quote just reply to the email stating
that you are interested in the quote as is. If you would like
to make changes just let us know what changes you are interested
in making and we will send a new quote.
Step five:
Once all forms have been received and payment has been made
we will ship your computer out to you. The basic charge for
shipping a laptop is $35, desktop computers will incur a higher
shipping charge. If more items are added the price could change.
You may also pick your computer up here in the store anytime
during normal store hours.
If we do not have the computer in stock we will order it
for you at this time.
All prices, configurations, and availability
are subject to change without notice and do not include sales tax. We can
sell only to University of Tennessee departments, students, staff, and
faculty for their personal use. Products may not be purchased for resale.
Proof of eligibility is required. All purchases are for educational use
and may not be used in a business or commercial setting.
