Computer Repairs

The University Center Computer Store is primarily an Apple Service Provider. We are also able to perform basic PC upgrades, including RAM and hard drive installations.* All warranties are handled directly though the computer manufacturer. This webpage is designed to make the computer warranty repair process easier for our customers. Under the heading of each manufacturer are instructions to help make the process of getting your computer fixed a quick and hassle-free experience. If you purchased the computer from us we can handle the entire process for you. However, this does take the time of our staff and for that reason a service fee of $50 will be charged for this service. In the event that your computer is in for repair, or being sent in for warranty work, we can usually back up your data off of your old hard drive. We do charge a nominal fee of $50 for our attempt to back up your data.

*Parts must be purchased from the University Center Computer Store

Apple

The University Center Computer Store is an Apple Authorized Repair Center. This means that we have trained personnel on staff that can handle Apple repairs on both in-warranty and out-of-warranty computers.

iPod

iPods can only be repaired by Apple directly. Please use the following link for submitting an iPod to Apple for repair.

PCS

Since we cannot provide service for most Windows-based machines, we have set up service with a local company.
  • For a list of systems PCS can service, click here.
  • If you would like to use the UCCS as a pickup / dropoff point for your repair, please fill out and bring this sheet with you.
  • If paying by credit card, please bring this form as well.

Dell

There are three options for repairing your broken Dell laptop.

  • Call Dell directly for service (800-624-9896)
    • All Dell computers purchased from the UCCS come with the Complete Care NBD On-Site warranty. Please tell the Dell customer service representative with whom you are speaking that you have this coverage.
  • Call Dell yourself then let us be the drop off / pickup point
  • For machines that we sold to you we can handle the whole process (there will be a minimum charge of $50 for this service)

We have created a form that details the process for each of the above options. Click here to download it.

Computer Set-Up

New students have enough to do without worrying about getting their computer ready for the challenges of campus computing.  Our repair shop offers a set-up service (for new computers purcahsed through the computer store) that will help prepare your computer to survive the challenge.  Our $75 set-up includes:
  • The set-up, activation, and updating of the operating system.
  • The installation and updating of Microsoft Office Professional.
  • The installation, configuration, and updating of needed virus protection software and spyware removal tools.
  • Configuring your computer to work on the University’s wireless network (the student will still have to register their computer on the network).
  • The creation of recovery disks (if needed) and organizing them in an included CD wallet (these CDs should stay in the student’s possession in case they are needed for future repair issues).
  • The setting of a restore point (if applicable) to facilitate easily returning to a last "known good" configuration of the computer.
  • A 14ft Ethernet Cable.

For Mac users who require it, we can also install Bootcamp or Parallels and the Windows XP operating system.  There is an additional charge of $50 for this service (not including cost of software). The UT Computer Store WILL NOT install Vista upgrades onto any machine.
